4 Ways to Be More Diverse in the Workplace

This country has been the melting pot of everyone from all walks of life, countries, race, sexual orientation, gender and religion. The harsh reality that we face in the United States can help us embrace our differences and celebrate the beauty in that instead of trying to eliminate them. We have heard the phrase “diversity in the workplace”, but what can we do to incorporate that in our values? Here are 4 ways to help you get started:

1. Educate yourself and your employees. There are a lot of books, Ted Talks, seminars, and much more on how to incorporate diversity in your workplace. Never stop learning and push your employees to keep learning as well.
2. Hiring. Not just the maintenance level, but for leadership roles as well, hire women, POC, veterans, LGBTQ, and celebrate the difference in your company.
3. Choose vendors or suppliers who are diverse. Rather it’s where you get your office supplies, who helps you with your events, and companies you work with on a day to day basis, look into the diversity of their company. Consciously choose to work with more minority, veteran, women, LGBTQ companies that you believe in. Who you partner with, reflects your company and your values.
4. Support your community. Rather is monetarily or in person, giving back to your community and supporting organizations that are doing good.
